Knight's Tour Shurikens

The Ninja Stars banner above comes from BUDK.com.  The following knight's tour makes a four-pointed shuriken-like shape.    A shuriken is a ninja throwing star.  See the steps for how I made the shuriken from the knight's tour.

Step 1:

The initial drawing consists of two mini-knight's tour circuits of 12 moves and 52 moves respectively.

Step 2:

In order to make a single knight's tour circuit from the previous tours, I added a red line, orange line and a black line on or over other moves in the bottom right quarter section of the tour.

Step 3:

In this step, I moved the red line to the orange line and deleted the black line then recolored all the lines back to blue.  The following result is an open knight's tour that reveals the shape of a shuriken in the tour.

Step 4:

I made a copy of the shuriken image from the previous knight's tour and removed the background.  I added an actual shuriken picture that can be found on Knife Import Wholesale.

Step 5:

Using the same knight 's tour moves as above, but with just a few knight move changes, produced the following quaternary rotation symmetric four mini-knight's tours.

Step 6:

When these four tours are separated from the board, rearranged, then connected together, they also make a four pointed shuriken ninja throwing star.

Step 7:

I used the fill option in Microsoft Visio to automatically and alternately color in the spaces of the shuriken in black with red borders.

Step 8:

Overlapping the four mini-knight's tour circuits can make another interesting ninja star shuriken.

Step 9:

Another nice shape made by knight moves is an 8-pointed star that can be used as a ninja throwing star or shuriken.  The outermost border of this shape can be found in  George Jelliss' 9x9 knight's tour.
